Brad J. (IanAugust)
SEGA! This week we're doubling up and featuring two, yes two game soundtracks. Altered Beast and Golden Axe were ported from the Arcade to the Sega Genesis early in its lifecycle. These classic games were cemented in many young gamers memories because of their great music and brutal gameplay.
Come enjoy these classic distinctive gaming tunes.

Music Podcast 13: Demon's Souls
Posted by
Amado Bustos
Back in 2009 my world was invaded by a black phantom. This black phantom was called Demon's Souls. A spiritual successor to King's Field which stood apart from all other games of it's kind. In part due to it's design, but mostly due to it's difficulty. Most people after playing this game seem to recall the old days of gaming; when you knew whatever you played was going to kick the crap out of you across the street.I even reviewed Demon's Souls back then. I gave it a Buttered Toast which is basically a 2/3. Since then I've returned to playing it and as I stated in the musicast I'm 4 play-throughs in.
Anyway Please enjoy this weeks Musicast. Oh! Also visit preparetodie.com to pre-order Dark Souls which comes out October 4th.

So I'm not cool enough to have played this game when it came out. I do plan to change that in the future because after hearing the music and talking about the story I'm very interested. Even the concept art is really good!
Thanks to our friend Eric for the request. Enjoy.

Musicast 05: Phantasy Star I & II
Posted by
Amado Bustos
Phantasy Star is one of the most popular PSP games out there. On the Dreamcast too it was very popular. But before Phantasy Star went online it was just a sci-fi themed first person view RPG on the Sega Master System.
Some call it the greatest RPG series of it's time. Some call it the greatest RPG series period. Whatever the case for you, Phantasy Star is something you should take a lot more seriously in the future.
How many of you can remember playing any of the Phantasy Star games?

Musicast EP 04: Mega Man
Posted by
Brad J. (IanAugust)
He's blue and cyan... MEGA MAN! Well on this North America game box art he's more of a yellow and bluish color, but that's beside the point. We go back to one of the greatest classics to ever grace the NES console and feature music from the first three games in the Mega Man (a.k.a Rockman) series.
We hope that this episode brings back fond memories of the glory days when games were designed to kick your little kid ass. I believe most of us remember the good old days of challenging platformers and Mega Man was one of the best to come from the NES era.

MUSICAST 02: F-Zero
Posted by
Brad J. (IanAugust)
As promised we are continuing our Musicast and episode 2 is here and ready for your listening pleasure.
I'll be your host this week and will be featuring one of my favorite racing games of all time, F-Zero. The soundtrack to F-Zero brings back fond memories of playing video games late into the night at my cousins house and screaming at the television wondering why this god damn game was so hard. The soundtrack does a great job of fitting into the futuristic universe that the series was set in as well as matching the sense of speed the game produced with its Mode 7 graphics.

Tommy Tallarico. Sounds like a name you'd hear on Beverly Hills 90210 doesn't it? Ok so maybe that's just me. This guy has become on of the biggest names in video game industry, here's a little about him:
Co-Founder of Video Games Live, music writer for many video games including Unreal, Pacman World, Maximo, Earth Worm Jim and many many others. Co-Produced Electric Playground, Reviews on the Run (also known as Judgement Day on the G4 network). Advisory board member for the Games Developer Conference, and a Governor for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and... ah well you get the picture.
Anyway I just wanted to bring this guy to your attention and make you watch this video!
I think this about guarantees GDC is going to be a cool place to hang out at.

Podcast: The Terminator VS Video Game Violence
Posted by
Brad J. (IanAugust)
We've got another podcast recorded and guess what, we have decided to go to a weekly schedule. That's right, once a week you'll get our opinions on games, news, and current events as well as featured video game music to enchant your ears with.
On this episode we're joined by our friend Coffee from Coffeewithgames.com to talk about the recent Supreme Court case, Schwarzenegger v. Entertainment Merchants Association. The state of California wants to make it a crime to sell violent video games to anyone under the age of 18. If you want to read or hear the debate here's the link.
Also, we go off on the industries current case of Sequelitis and we celebrate the release of the Super Meat Boy soundtrack by playing 3 tracks brought to you by the Danny B. of dbsoundworks. Thanks Danny for letting us blast your music into cyberspace for free! Go to dbsoundswords.com/bandcamp.com and pick up one of the best soundtracks of the year.
Download | itunes
Should the state of California have the right to ban the sale of violent video games to minors?
Do you have kids? Do you let them play violent games and have they turned into psychotic killers yet? If so get them the hell away from us!

| How can you deny this cute face? |
You can pick up this amazing 33 track albulm at dbsoundworks.bandcamp.com for $3.99. All the proceeds will go to danny B of dbsoundworks.com and as the site says it will "fuel his habit of making killer soundtracks for awesome indie video games!"
And for all of you that like resisting the digital revolution while combing back your mullets. You can buy the physical special edition of the soundtrack being announced in late November.
So far I am loving this electronic, rock mix of sounds as its washes through my brain. I can't quite put my finger on it, but even though the music is being produced with current technology, the beats and rhythms feel very 16 bit old school. I know next to nothing about music, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
